It has the broadest PIMS connections in the category, from API-level ezyVet, Cornerstone, AVImark, ImproMed, Provet and Shepherd links to a Chrome extension for any browser PMS, and ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 2 security. How CoVet works day to day
CoVet is a veterinary AI scribe and copilot that turns consultations, recordings, PDFs, handwritten notes and client calls into SOAP notes, discharge instructions, visit summaries and referral letters in seconds. It is not Covetrus, the distributor with a similar name; CoVet is a separate company that IDEXX Laboratories acquired in a deal announced on September 16, 2026. It was co-founded by CEO and CTO Yannick Bloem, a former senior engineer at Apple, COO Mike Parent, a co-founder of a Canadian veterinary telehealth company, and Chief Veterinary Officer Dr. Mike Mossop, and its in-house medical team includes more than 30 DVMs and RVTs. CoVet is used in practices across North America, Europe and Australia, from solo clinics to multi-location groups, and the company says it helps save pet professionals more than two hours every day, across emergency, specialty, mobile, equine and general practice workflows.
What the IDEXX deal means is worth understanding before you buy. IDEXX says CoVet joins its software ecosystem alongside its cloud practice management systems and the Vello client engagement platform, that it will keep supporting other ambient scribes and third-party integrations, and that CoVet will keep working with practice management systems IDEXX does not operate. In practice, Cornerstone, Neo and ezyVet clinics should expect the deepest integration over time, while practices on other PIMS should ask how the roadmap treats their system.
Day to day, CoVet helps generate records and automate admin work across clinical workflows: you open a case, hit New Recording and let CoVet listen to the consultation, then generate a SOAP note or any other document from the template library. You can add recordings, PDFs and files to a case, create distinct records for several patients from one consultation, and use species-specific templates for exotic, equine and production animal work. The medical history summary condenses long records and referrals, phone calls become structured notes, visual dental charting fills in automatically from what you say, and surgical reports, tasks and checklists keep the case moving. Magic Edit lets you rewrite a record with your own prompts, custom abbreviations and snippets speed up formatting, and branded PDFs carry your clinic logo to clients.
Why do veterinary teams pick CoVet? The answer CoVet gives is that it was built by people who have worked in the exam room. Its in-house team of DVMs and RVTs helps keep every feature grounded in real veterinary workflows, so templates, exports and admin tools fit how clinics actually work rather than how software designers imagine they work. That shows in the details: support staff work in the same cases as the doctor at no cost, records can be structured around each clinic's standards, and the admin work that usually follows veterinary teams home, from callbacks to referral letters and discharge instructions, is drafted while the case is still open. The result CoVet promises is confidence when you walk into an appointment and freedom when you walk out, with more time for patient care and less time on records.
CoVet goes further than most scribes on clinical support. Consult CoVet is a real-time AI clinical chat inside the case, powered through LifeLearn Sofie, that offers differentials, diagnostic plans and treatment guidance, and the Vetlexicon integration sends educational handouts to pet owners. Teams can share templates built around their own workflows, so every clinic in a group documents the same way while leaving room for clinical judgment, and an enterprise dashboard gives group leaders practice insights.
Integration is a clear strength, and it helps reduce double entry in daily workflows. Deeper API-level connections cover AVImark, Cornerstone, ezyVet, ImproMed, Merlin, Pack Leader DVM, Provet Cloud, Shepherd and VetFiles; with ezyVet, appointments sync into CoVet as cases and finished records export back at the API layer. Further integrations cover Instinct, Vetspire, Digimidi, Fuga, PetBooqz and Vettigo, and a Chrome extension works alongside any browser-based PMS. CoVet runs on the web, iOS and Android. Security is enterprise grade, with ISO 27001, SOC 2 Type 2, HIPAA, PIPEDA and GDPR compliance and end-to-end encryption.
CoVet pricing is published and billed per user. Unlimited costs $99 per month on an annual plan, $1,188 a year, or about $149 month to month, with unlimited generations and every feature, including the custom template builder and Consult CoVet. Essentials costs $45.83 per month on an annual plan, $550 a year, for part-time vets and techs who need up to 100 generations a month. Support accounts are free for administrative staff, credentialed technicians and other support staff working with a paid user. Paid plans start with a two-week free trial, students get free unlimited access throughout school and for eight months after graduation, and there is preferred pricing for multi-user practices, groups, non-profits, academia, veterans and relief or locum vets.
CoVet reviews are solid: 4.5 out of 5 from 89 reviews on VetSoftwareHub, with users praising how records flow into their PIMS and how well it documents the doctor's notes. The trade-offs are cost and change. Monthly billing is about a third more than annual, per-user pricing adds up for large teams compared with flat clinic pricing, Essentials caps notes at 100 a month, and the IDEXX acquisition is recent, so contract terms and the integration roadmap for non-IDEXX systems should be confirmed in writing.
If CoVet is not the right fit, the closest CoVet alternatives are Scribenote, with a free plan and Adaptive Templates, ScribbleVet, now owned by Instinct Science, Talkatoo for dictation and call summaries, VetSOAP for a simple flat price, HappyDoc and VetRec. The verdict: CoVet is one of the most complete veterinary AI copilots available, with the broadest PIMS connections in the category, multilingual international reach and real clinical decision support, and the best choice for groups and IDEXX practices that want one documentation standard.

ScribenoteHow to test CoVet before you commit
Every tool demos well. These are the checks that actually tell you whether CoVet fits your practice, while the free trial is still running.
Run a real appointment end to end
- Use your own templates and one of your busiest appointment or session types
- Test it on the devices your staff actually use, not a demo laptop
- Move the result into the system you already use and time every step
- Add a second user and watch how the per-seat price moves
Watch for the catch
- Usage caps, credits or add-on fees that only show up on the invoice
- Features quietly locked to a higher tier than the one you tried
- Onboarding or data import sold as a paid add-on
- How hard it is to export your data if you decide to leave
