The verdict

Scribenote is one of the original veterinary AI scribes, started in 2019 by a software developer and his veterinarian sister and now used by more than 6,000 vets. Record on any device and it writes structured SOAP notes tuned for medication names and clinical jargon. Adaptive Templates copy your own format from a PDF, and client summaries, Scribephone call notes and Companion AI assistants extend it beyond the exam room. Widget Mode exports to any PIMS, with native PIMSPal for Covetrus Pulse and ezyVet, and it holds SOC 2 Type II and ISO/IEC 42001. The Free plan includes unlimited notes; Pro costs $79 per DVM yearly or $99 monthly, with care team members free. The catches: the best features are Pro-only, Free plan data is shared for model training by default, and there is no part-time pricing. It is the first AI scribe most practices should trial.

How Scribenote works day to day

Scribenote is an AI scribe for veterinarians that turns a recorded appointment into structured medical records. You hit record at the start of an exam on your phone, tablet or laptop, stay focused on the patient, and a SOAP note or another format is ready to review by the time you finish. It is one of the original veterinary AI scribes: CEO and co-founder Ryan, a software developer, started building it in 2019 after watching his sister, Dr. Katie, come home two hours late from work every night because of clinical documentation. Dr. Katie is now the veterinary lead and a co-founder, practicing veterinarians sit on the clinical team, and the company says more than 6,000 veterinarians use Scribenote. It is independently owned, made in Canada, and not tied to any PIMS or veterinary enterprise.

The day-to-day workflow has three steps. First, speak freely on any device; Scribenote records appointments, conversations and phone calls, and an iOS app covers recording on the move. Second, the AI converts speech into clear, structured notes, tuned to pick up medication names, technical jargon and even thick accents. Third, edit the note in a few clicks and export it to your clinic's records. Scribenote says editing should take under two minutes per note, and it frames the savings as one to two hours on day one, ten hours in the first week and more than fifty hours across a team in the first month. Those are vendor figures, so measure your own editing time during the trial.

Adaptive Templates are the standout feature. You upload a PDF of the format you already use, or build one, and Scribenote creates a template that writes in your style, from a quick allergy consult to a complex surgery. A template library covers medical records, callbacks, dental records with a visual chart, multi-pet visits, pack and herd appointments and abdominal ultrasound, and care team members can automate callbacks for client communication, recaps for team rounds and dictations. Adaptive Client Summaries turn any appointment into a client-facing recap of the diagnostics you recommended and costs discussed, sent by email or downloaded as a PDF. Scribephone lets you call clients from Scribenote and writes every call up as a note automatically, and Companion adds AI assistants you can ask anything about any patient, like a trusted colleague.

PIMS integration works two ways. Widget Mode is a floating desktop widget that drops the finished record into any PIMS in seconds, section by section or as a full SOAP note, without switching tabs or windows. PIMSPal, a Pro feature, adds deeper native integration for Covetrus Pulse, including eVetPractice, and ezyVet. Teams Mode lets technicians, RVTs and support staff use Scribenote for free as long as there is an associated paid DVM account, so the whole care team can share templates and transfer records.

Security is a strength. Scribenote holds SOC 2 Type II attestation and its AI management system is certified to ISO/IEC 42001 by Insight Assurance, with documentation at its trust center. One detail matters for practice owners: on the Free plan, non-identifiable appointment data is shared for model improvements by default, while Pro and Enterprise users are opted out by default. Scribenote also publishes a client consent form template for recording appointments, which is worth using in two-party consent states.

Scribenote pricing is published and starts at zero. The Free plan includes unlimited notes on standard AI models with standard transcription quality, self-serve and automated support, unlimited care team members with Teams Mode and PIMS integration through Widget Mode. Pro costs $79 per month per DVM on yearly billing or $99 on monthly billing and adds the most advanced AI models with the highest transcription quality, human support, custom templates and client summaries, Scribephone, multi-language mode, an AI writing assistant and PIMSPal. Enterprise is quoted and adds custom dashboards and insights, single sign-on, multi-team management with role-based access, uptime SLAs, custom data retention and export, a dedicated account manager and clinical training. New accounts get two weeks of Pro free with no credit card, students can get discounted Pro through partner schools, and the Pay It Furward program gives both sides $200 in credits toward patient care when a referred DVM subscribes.

The trade-offs are clear in Scribenote reviews and on its own pricing page. Custom templates, Scribephone, client summaries and human support are Pro features, so the Free plan is best for vets who just need their notes done. Native PIMSPal integration is limited to Covetrus Pulse and ezyVet, there is no special pricing for locums or part-time vets, and Enterprise rates are not published. Reviewers rate it 4.8 out of 5 on VetSoftwareHub, the highest score in the AI scribe category there, though from a smaller base of 22 reviews.

If Scribenote is not the right fit, the closest Scribenote alternatives are ScribbleVet, which adds visual dental charts, Care Cards and Plumb's drug monographs, VetRec with per-vet plans, Talkatoo for dictation-first workflows, HappyDoc with flat clinic pricing, and PIMS with a built-in scribe such as Digitail's Tails AI.

The verdict: Scribenote is the easiest veterinary AI scribe to start with, because the Free plan has unlimited notes and Pro is priced below most rivals, and its Adaptive Templates make notes sound like your own. For most general, emergency and specialty practices it is the first AI scribe to trial.

How to test Scribenote before you commit

Every tool demos well. These are the checks that actually tell you whether Scribenote fits your practice, while the free trial is still running.

Run a real appointment end to end

  • Use your own templates and one of your busiest appointment or session types
  • Test it on the devices your staff actually use, not a demo laptop
  • Move the result into the system you already use and time every step
  • Add a second user and watch how the per-seat price moves

Watch for the catch

  • Usage caps, credits or add-on fees that only show up on the invoice
  • Features quietly locked to a higher tier than the one you tried
  • Onboarding or data import sold as a paid add-on
  • How hard it is to export your data if you decide to leave

Scribenote FAQ

What is Scribenote?

Scribenote is an AI scribe built for veterinary teams. You record an appointment, call or dictation on any device, and it produces structured SOAP notes and other medical records that you review, edit in a few clicks and export to your PIMS.

Is Scribenote free?

Yes. The Scribenote Free plan costs $0 and includes unlimited notes on standard AI models, Teams Mode for care team members and PIMS integration through Widget Mode, with self-serve support. Custom templates, client summaries, Scribephone and human support require Pro.

How much does Scribenote cost?

Scribenote Pro costs $79 per month per DVM on yearly billing or $99 on monthly billing. Enterprise is quoted. Only full-time DVMs are charged, so technicians and support staff are free with a paid DVM account, and new accounts get two weeks of Pro free.

Does Scribenote integrate with my PIMS?

Scribenote works with any PIMS through Widget Mode, a floating desktop widget that drops the finished note into your system in seconds. Pro adds PIMSPal, a deeper native integration for Covetrus Pulse, including eVetPractice, and ezyVet.

How accurate is Scribenote?

Scribenote is veterinary-specific, tuned by veterinarians to pick up medication names and technical jargon, and it works well with accents. You still review every note; the company says editing should take under two minutes, and Pro uses its most advanced models with the highest transcription quality.

Is Scribenote secure and HIPAA compliant?

Scribenote holds SOC 2 Type II attestation and ISO/IEC 42001 certification for its AI management system. HIPAA covers human health data, not veterinary records, so the more useful questions are SOC 2, data retention and whether your data is used for model training, which is on by default only on the Free plan.

Does Scribenote have a mobile app?

Yes. Scribenote has an iOS app for recording on the move, and it also runs in the browser on tablets and laptops, with Widget Mode on the desktop for exporting notes to your PIMS.

Can non-DVMs use Scribenote?

Yes. Care team members such as RVTs, technicians and support staff use Scribenote free with Teams Mode as long as there is an associated paid DVM account, and they can automate callbacks, recaps for team rounds and dictations.

Where is the Scribenote login?

The Scribenote login is the Sign In link at the top of scribenote.com, which opens the web app. You can also log in through the Scribenote iOS app with the same account, and care team members in Teams Mode sign in with their own credentials.

Who owns Scribenote?

Scribenote is independently owned by Scribenote Inc., a Canadian company co-founded in 2019 by CEO Ryan and his sister Dr. Katie, a veterinarian, and it is not owned by a PIMS vendor or veterinary enterprise.

What are the best Scribenote alternatives?

The closest Scribenote alternatives are ScribbleVet for dental charts, Care Cards and Plumb's monographs, VetRec with per-vet plans, Talkatoo for dictation-first workflows, HappyDoc with flat clinic pricing, and Digitail if you want an AI scribe inside the PIMS.
